...and, who the hell are you ?
We are The Album Zone, thanks for asking.
So what makes you different from anyone else ?
Where do we start ?
1) We have a bunch of Presenters who are, first and foremost, Music fans,
not 'clone DJs' as you are probably used to.
2) We actually do this for FUN - remember that old chestnut ? A quick look
at our 'previous broadcasts' pages on this Site will explain more.
3) We do have a good, no, make that excellent - knowledge of music.
4) We have some 22,000 Albums on our Music Library to choose from. That
OK for starters ?
Why then 'The Album Zone' ?
We concentrate mainly on Album Music - the sort of thing that most Stations
around the world won't touch, either because it's not 'safe Radio', and/or
they wouldn't actually have a clue what to do.
How is it formatted then ?
It isn't. Our Presenters are responsible for their own output. We feel
this is where common sense comes into play, we don't need some numbhead
who knows damn all about musical history telling us what to play, or say.
Who pays for it ?
We do. Well, others help, of course, just as Radio Seagull in the Netherlands
are doing at the moment. They wanted our Programmes, and we said yes, ok
! We have had many similar arrangements in the past - Radio 6, Calais,
France, and Fugue FM, Compiegne, France, and others too.
Surely this costs money ?
Of course. But we do get the occasional kind sponsor, or our Listeners
have, on many occasions, donated to 'the cause', enabling us to purchase
airtime on other Stations, in other countries. If it is physically and financially
possible, we'll give it a go. Otherwise, we'll beg. And we're not joking.
Where do you broadcast from ?
We have built our own Studios, in London - which the Presenters paid
for themselves. Many of our Programmes are recorded there, though we may
well go 'Live' from there on occasion. In the case of Radio 6, France, we
travelled over to that Station to Broadcast 'Live' from their Studios, and
our current Internet Programmes via Radio Seagull on Wednesdays and Thursdays,
is relayed from servers in Holland.
What music do you specialise in ?
If we can describe ourselves as 'specialist' in one way, it would probably
be in the area of Rock/Pop Album tracks. However, do note that we often
lean towards a minimum of around 30 - 40% 'new' material, as the only new
tracks normally heard are 'Singles' elsewhere - what a waste ! If we think
it's good though - we'll play it - whether it's something from a new, upcoming
Band, or something vintage from Leadbelly. Doesn't matter to us - it's about
the Music itself. We do play 'Singles' too, from time to time, it's just
that a good 10 or 12 minute Album epic would be just at home on our Programmes
than anything else.
Doesn't that give a 'what the hell is coming next' type perspective ?
Exactly. That's how we play it.
Where have your Presenters worked previously ?
Check other parts of the Site. Everything from Radio Caroline, to a host
of Stations in Europe and the USA. A right undisciplined bunch.
When/where do you Broadcast ?
Check out our Programme Schedule pages - all the info is there.
How do I get in touch ?
2 ways at the moment. Either via e-mail, to
music@albumzone.net
, or if you prefer to drop us a line, to the following address :
The Album Zone, PO Box 26325, London, N8 7WR, U.K
.
How often will you update the Website ?
Two ways to answer this. Firstly, whenever 'news' breaks, or, if changes
have to be made. 'Often' would be the obvious answer. We update our Audio
Files every 7 days - there will be up to 20 separate files, which will feature
not only Programmes not often heard via the Internet - 'Vintage' Programmes
from our dim and distant past - but also 'new' Programmes made especially
and exclusively for the Site itself. All a bit smart-ass if you ask
me. New features will appear often on the Site - check back regularly !
Will you, or do you, feature any 'specials' musically ?
Yes, whether it be on an Artist, or a particular era or genre of Music.
All details will appear on our 'News' and 'Programme Schedules' pages
.
Do you drink and smoke whilst on air ?
Of course we bloody do ! This isn't a 'normal' station, you
know.
That's All, Folks !
